Macduff 40 yo 1968 / 2008 Duncan Taylor #8547 45.5%
Very soft, gentle profile full of wood nuances. loads of warming dessert spices, gentle hints of worn leather, caramel, pastry creme vanilla pods, raw brown sugar, dry wood and cracking varnish. Some bay leaf and oregano as well. So in other words the best of long term maturation in inactive american oak without any of those harsh tannins that would butcher any malt in 3 years. However nothing particularly outstanding here either. Blind I would have guessed a long aged grain whisky. 85 pts

Great nose. Yellow hues all around with baked yellow fruit, thick somehwat musty honey, tobacco, dried leaves and wasabi lines this with a herbaceous edge. A collection of interesting elements follow, like smoking resins, soot flecks, mustard leaves, scraped camphor wood, fruit acid, pineapple and iron filings. Undoubtedly characterful, and quite excellent I think. 90 pts
