Glen Garioch 27 yo 1991 / 2018 Carn Mor #20392 51%
Always interesting. Glen Garioch has these phenolic touches that can veer a little rough but here it’s all polished to a shine. Rubbed charcoal, flints and minerals, smoking matches, hint of yogurt, and a whiff of feints. So a nose that leans towards the severe. On the tongue it’s plenty of tonic water, pine needles, charcoal and yes some yogurt sourness again. The combination is an effervescent, chemical but soot smeared quality. 87 pts
Glen Garioch 21 yo 1965 Full Proof 50%
A famous one, and already a different world. This speaks of caked grime, soot from hot lamps and a multitude of phenolic touches. The ‘deep’ peat style from days of yore. Forgotten honey jars, mushy brown oranges, years worth of spilt resins on earthen floors, beeswax hemp string, thick herbal teas – the sort with many medicinal flowers, echinacea and sliced liquorice root. Coal fires and unlit coals waiting their turn, caked mud on decrepit boots. A tear jerking profile that is murky but deeply profound. 93 pts
