Somewhat shy on the nose, but oaky ex-bourbon notes are evident, as is rucola and mustard. Somewhat harsh. Despite some oily weight and cereal, it’s quite the same on the tongue, and surprisingly acrid and raw for a well aged Bruichladdich of all things. Completely lacking that salinity and green orchard fruit characteristic in so many great examples of these years. 82 pts

Back on track with sweet cream, fresh grass toasted malt and dripping caramel. Full of zingy zesty green fruit now like green kiwis and sharp green berries. Totally ascerbic but pleasing. This leans to freshness but one feels the wood weighing down the spirit with full oaky flavours like tobacco, tea, toffee and creamy oak. On the tongue in particular, as the big oaky tannicity really swells into a dry bitterness. That said the pleasant green sourness never does go away. 86 pts
