A nose redolent of the ripeness of maturity. Gleaming cedar tables deeply waxed and stained with years of aromatic oils. Old camphor trinket boxes holding meditative incense A sophisticated potpourri bouquet holding things like orris and peony. Waxy citron peel, dried peach. Frankly, an amazing whisky already. A notch thinner on the tongue but its all fruit tea with touches of dill, gin and mint bitters. Extraordinary aromatics. 92 pts

Surprisingly sour in a fruity way. Cut grape vines and unripe green grapes. If that gives you pause, there’s more to come. Dry chalky dirt, something inky and bark-y like oakmoss, a drop of molasses and turpenes. It feels like this whisky has been about. Totally entertaining. In Asia we have this sour and tangy savoury fruit called bilimbing, I can’t not think of it here, or it might be tinned pineapple and lemon liqueur. And then wisps of white smoke. Finally to cap off this strange parade, here’s a dank and musty white pepper. 100 pts for flair but to be fair: 90 pts
