Clynelish 18 yo 1997 / 2016 Homage to Caledonia #6934 50.1%
A modern classic, if you will, honeyed, waxy and molten. Full of sunny hues of hay, warm butter, yellow apricots in syrup, but a fair mineral side also shows with hot metal, clay and sandy ground in the afternoon. Some sharp edged greens also surface after a time like dry pine needles, fennel, and a piquant juniper. Entirely in line with expectations. Great Clynelish. 89 pts

This is not an easy one, it’s one of those chiselled but narrow and razor edged ones. You are either on board or this ship’s not for you. Cold marble, white an immaculate and tree moss on wet bark fed with wet winds and cold air. It has a crystalline translucence that’s hard to put down in words but glows with aspects of brittle paraffin, touches of white smoke, clean earth and turpenic resins. Lean, austere, sublime but magnificent. There are echoes of 1965, yes, high praise. 91 pts
