Glendullan 12 yo Macdonald Greenlees 47% ~ Importato Da Ditta Manzuoli, late 80s
Quite a full nose, but is that the cask? Right, a veneer of sulphur that clear but one cannot get away from that one old struck match. Smoked ham and plenty of sour herbaceous notes like bay and fennel. Old orange rind, leafy notes galore, fruit peelings in the sink and an indeterminate canned juice. Somewhat short and flat on the tongue though the nose was great. 87 pts
Glenfarclas 28 yo 1970 / 1999 Cadenhead 55.9%
The nose presents remarkably fresh tones. Plenty of aromatic sap and resins like mastic and frankincense smoke. Preserved oranges, dry peppercorns, cedar, fresh pine and newly hewn aromatic wood. I want to say palo santo but some might say guaic. Old copper pans lovingly oiled. Another surprise on the tongue now – its fresh and citric like an effervescent ginger and orange juice cocktail on the tongue. Overall clean and uplifting, nevermind the sherry, but the how freshness belies the wood! A fun circus. 89 pts
