Bowmore 25 yo 1990 / 2015 Rest & Be Thankful Whisky Co #185076 53.7%
Now while the heart of it is fruity, it’s firmly in the tart citric camp, so unripe lemons grapefruit and sour mango, The rest of it is zingy seaside. Clean white minerals, salt spray, freshly laundered wool sweaters, eucalyptus rub, a maritime scene in which this clean oily fruity weight floats. The structure for the great Bowmore of the 60s is observable! Also salted almonds, cigarette ashtray and fisherman’s friends. And chalk dust. 1990 but its lavender free. 90 pts

The bourbon wood is a lot bigger here, it just abounds with notes like caramel, leather and creme polish. That said the peat comes through strongly with hints of smoked haddock, lampblack and resin polish but also a tablespoon of medicine blended with petrol and tar. Its the sea that feels held down somewhat and it’s really on the palate that the saline notes along with the ash, cough drops and sour fruit arrive, and in a sense that’s a shame to me. 88 pts
