Craigellachie 20 yo 1972 / 1992 Cadenhead 53.3%
These old Craigellachies could lean phenolic. Here its lamp oil, coils of rope and greasy garage floors. Plenty of leaf litter too, old books and tobacco, no really the nose is washed in swathes of browns, some dry and crumpled, others moist and seething underfoot. So not in a peaty way. I also find the grittiness of old soot, congealed honey, old wax pots and lumps of coal amid dirty rocks, all while chewing on unsweetened hawthorn. 90 pts

Ooh thick and weighty like a syrup in the glass. Redolent of forest floors, and damp but clean earth refreshed after a shower, with fallen twigs and compost underfoot. Certainly an arboreal vibe to it. Chipped bark slowly turns to mush, and various woody herbs aromatize the morning dew. Old wax pots, sooty oil and old oranges on beaten camphor tables. A dry crackle pervades the atmosphere, like creosote caked rattan chairs you might sit on while watching desert lightning. 90 pts
