So I dropped by Quaich Bar to pick up a couple of bottles a friend kindly ordered for me.
Only my second visit but whisky enthusiasts will find a serious bar in a ‘quiet’-er location stocked counter to ceiling with a vast array of bottlings, independents as well as distillery bottling.

And of course since I was there, I had a drink:
Bunnahabhain 25yo OB:
Back to Islay again? What is it with me? The gentler side of Islay though. Just brief notes here: Oily and unctuous. But wonderfully complex with a medley of clean fruit notes that I can’t pick apart, Comes through spicy on the palate. Also very slightly salty after a few moments, but not a coastal behemoth. Needs time to open up, but well worth the wait.
Longrow 18yo OB:
Out of Islay, and across the water, but slap on the peat. Longrow is Springbank’s twice distilled medium peated offering, as opposed to Hazelburn, its thrice distilled lowland-style offering, and regular Springbank, which is distilled something like 2.5 times. How is this possible? Let’s save that for another day please.
Again, brief notes: Straight off mildly peaty, with some fresh creamy notes. Then farmyardy, not pungently farmyardy but its there. Also evocative of apple-cherry juice. A bit malty, warmed by honey spicy notes. Cloves maybe? Excellent!
