Good one, as these early 90s go. Charcoal, petrichor, thin stony minerals and clean algae. Spearmint, tarragon, green hay, lots of honeydew and light caramel syrup. One of the more characterful distillates today. On the tongue it brings both a mineral sort of acidity but also sweet fruit and green juice. A winning combination. An easy drinking Whisky with surprising depth. 90 pts

Clearly big sherry maturation here, and the sherry is sticky and unctuous, if lacking a bit of sparkle. Dried plums, fig paste, aniseed rock, cinnamon powder, brown sugar, thick tea and heavy leather. Also a lot of oak effect, which weighs it down. A savoury aspect also shows in smoked ham and cooking herbs. But the peat train arrives and its’s unstoppable. Sooty firewood, myrrh, burnt earth, grey smoke from burning dry garden waste, some tar and buckets of hot ash, hot sand. Lit coal, and plenty of sear. Yes, quite ashen really. Unfortunately the old glory that is this peat feels a little distracted by the heavy sherry. 92 pts
