Glen Garioch 21 yo 1992 / 2014 Liquid Library 51.6%
Rough and rugged – Petrichor, wet clay and damp vegetables. Plenty of damp chalk covered in gritty gravel, unripe lime rinds, cold steel and battery acid. Not an easy nose at all, but most certainly one to appreciate. Charcoal, arugula and wet ballpoint ink. Totally acerbic and uncompromising, you might say severe, but certainly a fitting drink for forlornly facing the biting wind, or impending doom. 88 very technical pts
Glen Garioch 21 yo 1991 / 2012 Liquid Library 52.5%
Not far from that biting wind, but this is less statuesque. Green apple skins, shiso leaf, volatile paraffin compounds and dirty wax. Plenty of charcoal on the nose and palate, is Glen Garioch built on a bed of charcoal? A biting petitgrain, chilli seed and a boatload of geosmin. Again, a minimalist whisky with a gaunt face, less imposing than the 1992 but yet not without reward. 88 pts
