Rich sort of Springbank, close to the sherry and full of the expected chocolate and figs, thick jammy notes, aniseed candy, dusted licorice sticks and the like. But its not Springbank without also a strong sense of petrochemicals like black smoke and fuel. Layers of earthy dirt and all sorts of roots give it grounding. And it goes on with grimey granite chips, spilt lamp oil next to lit hurricane lamps, resinous timber conditioner and bedraggled wool sweaters, very worn with a touch of sweat. Coal dust, firestarters black ash. Goes on and on. Impressive balance between the richness and the phenolic charge of the slightly-dirty agricole-esque Springbank. And the sheer volume! 93 pts
