In pot still terminology Redbreast is heavy pot but even so, there always seems to be a svelte leanness beneath its coppery glints. The 21 drapes rich garb of deepest sherry over this and it seems to work. At once substantially fuller and richer, perfectly complementary to the fruity tones of the whiskey. Blackberries, black currants and redcurrants provide a zingy sharp fruitiness against those coppery glints, warmed by dark cocoa, and deeply aromatic cinnamon and allspice powder. A side of Christmas cake in oiled brown paper with tea. And on the palate a real dark black currant tang bringing to mind Hacks cough candies without the medicinal aspects. Despite all that it remains angular and by no means heavy. 90 pts
