I love these long aged speysiders where the cask is subdued and time is left to do all the work. This one is filled with crystalized orange peel, apricot slices, dried guava and sweet mint liqueur. A beguiling nose. Creme brulee with a brown sugar crisp follows, worn leather armchairs, unlit tobacco, coconut ganache and plenty of aromatic cedar. All perfectly layered. But an unwelcome surprise on the tongue. A little salty ham and hints of floral wilt, sharp pepper and raw bite despite its low abv. The nuances now gone in a sudden mess of oddities. I seem to be the only one having this problem, another bottle is needed for comparison. 87 pts for now
