Irish Single Malt Whiskey 24 yo Batch 1 That Boutique-y Whisky Company 46.8%
Brilliantly fruity with a real warmth; And shades of tropical-ness that hearken back to an older era in whisky. Light cream with orange blossoms, rosewater, one eucalpytus leaf and treebark. A vitamin bite on the tongue, green tea, plenty and I mean plenty of fruit. Hot clay and emerging dry grass. Yellow hay. A medium light whisky that’s not too complex but that goes down way too easily. Typical of these great Irishes. 90 pts
Limerick Slaney Malt Irish Single Malt Whiskey 23 yo 1991 / 2005 Adelphi #8585 59%
Big and hefty! The sensual fruit is very apparent but doesn’t pop out of the glass, instead it mingles willingly with lamp oil, dried clods of dirt, rusty spades and sooty candle stubs. Lots of oils and the suggestion of heaviness. Slightly peated? On the palate a coterie of like minds surge forth – earthy resins, sooty things, charcoal, burning gas, cold burnt bits, burnt seashells, Quite sure it is lightly peated. Eucalyptus oil, fruit acid and red berry juice. Fantastic. The fruit plays second fiddle but what a melody. It weaves and bobs and peaks through the phenols, impatiently reminding you of it’s bridled potency. 91 pts
