Brora 21 yo 1982 / 2003 Signatory #416 58.4%
Cold candles, dried up lime zest, plenty of dirty mineral notes like sand and gravel mixed with a teaspooon of coal dust, soot and oil motor oils. Work the whole into white clay with drops of kerosene, oakmoss and cold sea air on the wind, and drops of nutmeg oil on the tongue. This rugged highlander character is very evident when Brora loses its peat. But Brora is Brora, and this austere mineralic profile cannot help but evoke memories of the chilly scents northern of Scotland in October. Also some similarities between 80s Brora and 80s Clynelish I think? 88 pts

Yes. Warm wax, honey, soft yellow fruit, warm stones, dry firewood, bits of soot and char and just gallons of soft warm molten wax. Lovely. A basket of clean moss and ferns fresh picked with wet earthy peat stuck to their roots. Unlit gas stoves and cold grills, but it glows with sunny warmth and quiet cheer. Turning towards citrus pith and mastic on the tongue. A giant of scotch, and a treasure to those who seek uniqueness and character in whisky. 89 pts
