Worth a revisit. This was an earlier batch from the mid 2000s. Yes this one seems to be coast forward, buttressed with a firm and muscular peat and lashings of smokey ash, yet the whole remains well defined. Plenty of salt zing and fresh seaweed, lemon eucalyptus pastilles, sea soaked garb and rubber boots make this very recognizable as Islay. Drops of tar, oily malt flavours, boggy phenols and soot all in attendance and lined up straight in a row. Good ol’Ardbeg. 88 pts
