Bunnahabhain 26 yo 1987 Highland Laird 51.1%
Bunnahabhain usually comes across as having good weight, and it is evident here with these cold vegetable and nut oils, and congealed fat from a refridgerated roast. Yes, hints of savouriness too with something chewy like rustic bread, musty honey and little herby lovage-like notes. Smears of marmalade, but also something wonderfully salty and coastal that picks up and carrys right through the finish. Also glad to report no baby puke here (another marker according to some). 87 pts.

Another substantial Bunnahabhain but differences abound. Here the (suspect sherry) cask was more active, resulting in a typical big vanilla-sour spice-ginger-tannic hit. Burnt wood bits, a raw woody spicy heat. Bitter over-steeped black tea. A burnt liquorice plantation. Musty wood, thick earthiness and damp places. Some sweet red berry juice on the tongue adopt a conciliatory tone before the oak tannins and hyperactive spices kick in and run it to the ground. 82 pts. Not my style.
