Like its sister distillery, here are soft minerals and waxy notes. Honey, hay and buttered pears. Fat ambrette seeds. Completely different from a 72 Brora of course, but a style that is compelling in its own right. Dried chamomile, and other little meadow flowers in the sun. Black peppercorns, and a bitter bite not unlike quinine with an effervescence. Sharp green grapes, pine needles. Great pin sharp nose but falls to pieces on the tongue, not the best example of 80s Brora. 85 pts

Not exceptionally peaty but there’s a ton of depth and viscosity here. Burnt grass effect, plenty of clear resins with a sort of turpenic slant. Polished waxed surfaces, clear machine oil, old earth in dusty clay pots, camphor – the light sharp sort of medicinal camphor not the heavy pungent sort. So there must be peat. Dry tinder, some forgotten maceration of mint leaves gone somewhat musty. And on the tongue a firm Swiss chard bite. Yes, real old style old oiliness here, without heavy peat but not without potency. 91 pts
