Highland 27 yo 1994 Thompson Bros 47.9%
Another unnamed Highlander. This time it seems we’ve stepped away from that little village of Brora. I find dust and ozone, and plenty of dried floral sachets – the sort with sage leaves, pinecones and lavender. Something sourly floral like tobacco blossoms. Also hot glass, the minty-medicinal tang of jujubes and perhaps the juice of green apples. The palate tends to heat with a chili seed bite on the tongue. Flints and a thin mineral character. Overall a rather lean whisky with an austerity that seems to have been tempered but not softened by age. I might have said an older Glenmorangie. 88 pts
